This is the fifth Strobist bootcamp assignment:

“To: Phil Phlashen

Assignment: Need interior of someplace in your town to illustrate a story on local area. Can be public or private. Completely your choice. Can be vertical or horizontal. Please shoot in color.

Photo could run full-page or double truck, so make sure it’ll hold up.

Deadline: 11:59pm local time, Sunday, May 11th.”

Setup details:

  • Taken late afternoon to bring the exterior light down to a more manageable level.
  • Ambient light from the vertical lamp in the room corner (tungsten colour), and another tungsten coloured lamp behind the camera.
  • SB-800 shot through an umbrella just out of shot to the left.
  • SB-800 in a soft box just to the left of the windows.
  • SB-600 under the plant, gelled green for effect.
  • All triggered from SU-800 on camera.

Final note – no Photoshopping was done on this…. verticals achieved through sensible placement of the camera on the Z-axis.
