Strobist Boot Camp II – Assignment 1

Sunday, June 21, 2009

This is my entry for the first assignment on Strobist Boot Camp II. The idea was to produce two shots, one a portrait of the subject, and the other me substituted into the same shot. So, what we have is my recently retired Dad on the left, and me on the right (crikey – I need a haircut!) My parents have just bought their first ever computer, so this shot could prove useful for social networking usage as they start to tackle the internet, hence going for a look which is friendly and amiable.
The lighting was done with a Nikon SB-800 through a Lumiquest Softbox 3 to camera left; and another SB-800 through a shoot-through umbrella to camera right for fill, set about 2 stops lower power than the first SB-800. Finally, a Nikon SB-26 with blue gel across the back wall was used to provide a splash of colour.
