Some projects orient around a theme, others are completely open. For me, I’ve decided that I’d like to improve my compositional skills (in my own eyes, at least!) To remove the distraction of lenses, and off-camera lighting, I’m not using my regular camera, but am limiting myself to using nothing more than my iPhone, including any post-processing, and uploading of the shots to the interweb. How well it works remains to be seen…

The first few shots are starting to accumulate, and the ones I select for each day can be seen in this set on Flickr. Of course, there are others – I can’t be expected to get a 100% hit rate of great shots , so you can see nearly all my iPhone shots through the year in this SmugMug album. I’m sure that some days, I’ll take nothing but junk (yesterday being a good example!) But, hopefully, I can create something throughout the year which results in me being slightly better at seeing a good shot, and might be a bit of fun in the process, as well as giving me a bizarre kind of record of the year. Only time will tell – 13 days down, 352 to go!

Surprisingly, after less than a day, these have clocked up around 1200 views on Flickr between them already, with still a few hours to go before the end of the day. I suspect some of this was due to the perfect lighting conditions providing some great shooting opportunities, but it’s interesting to see that the iPhone can now (with some post processing) provide shots which people really want to look at.
In fact, I’d be interested to know if those who looked at the shots even noticed that they were taken with an iPhone…
Has the iPhone 3GS got serious? The evidence here certainly suggests so!
